How do birth control pills effect a woman’s body? How long until the effects start to take place?

What are the percentages of a condom and a birth control pill not working at preventing a pregnancy?

What is the safest form of birth control (I know someone is going to say "not having sex, bwahaha" so please don’t) and what is the most effective?

I want to get on birth control asap after giving birth.
How long do I actually have to wait to do this?
I was originally planning doing the Mirena procedure, but not covered thru my insurance, so I will be going back on birth control pills.

Please advise.
